Devina cheated, and when it comes down to the final battle between good and evil to see who will rule Earth for the rest of time, not even the devil herself is allowed to cheat. Finally, some vindication for the ex-mortal Jim Heron and his angel back-up, Adrian. But it isn’t a new soul they are fighting over, it’s one Devina had already won. Taking one of her toys away does not make Devina happy. Jim Heron is even less happy though, when he finds out the soul is his old boss and extremely evil man Matthias. Can Jim overcome his personal demons and stop Devina? Can Matthias be saved? Who will win the battle between good and evil? There are four souls left, and only time will tell.
I’m not always sure why I keep reading JR Ward’s books (I am through 5 or 6 novels of the Black Dagger Brotherhood as well). Sometimes, her writing style drives me up the wall: she gets way too carried away with slang and making her male characters sound “macho.” For example, after the fourth or fifth time she referred to “turning left” as “making a louie” I wanted to throw the book against the wall. I get it, they’re big tough scary guys, can they not speak normal English? *twitches* Aside from those occasional annoyances though, I did like this installment in the Fallen Angels series. I like Jim and Devina both, they are strong characters, even though sometimes it’s hard to buy the devil having OCD issues. I think we are starting to see Jim’s evil side a bit in this novel, and I think we will see more of it in the next one, which is interesting. We’ll see what happens in the next book.
I’m going to read the next book in this series (and probably the next Black Dagger Brotherhood novel too) because who can resist books about the final battle between good and evil? Especially the kind with hot men and steamy sex, haha. But in honesty I am interested to see how Ward is going to finish this series, since she set it up in such a way that it will actually have to end at some point. At the very least, I’m intrigued to see what happens.
